Stakeholder engagement

We aim to regularly engage with our various stakeholders – employees, consumers, customers, investors, suppliers, the Government, non-governmental organisations and the wider communities in which we operate.

Employees

The Company uses a number of ways to engage employees on matters that impact them and on the performance of the Company. These include annual roadshows at key sites by members of our Executive Committee, the publication of a bi-monthly internal magazine, an intranet site containing easy access to the latest company information as well as company policies. Employee Opinion Surveys (EOS) are conducted regularly and through the Employee Involvement Forum (EIF), nominated representatives ensure that employees’ views are fed back. The EIF are also consulted on many new policies and processes before implementation.

Investors

The Chairman, Chief Executive, Finance Director and members of our Investor Relations Team regularly meet with our shareholders and analysts from the financial community which invest in us or that represent our shareholders. These meetings are also our opportunity to include corporate responsibility and socially responsible investment issues.

Government & industry forums

Our Corporate Affairs Department are in dialogue with relevant Government departments, trade associations and regulators to discuss issues and potential partnerships. Examples of these include the School Foods Trust, the Foods Standards Agency, the Food and Drink Federation and the British Soft Drinks Association.

Non-governmental organisations

We aim to foster new and existing partnerships both with non-governmental organisations and charities. Currently these include Waste and Resources Action Programme (WRAP), the Carbon Trust and regular dialogue with bodies such as Farming and Countryside Education (FACE).

Consumers

We undertake regular consumer focus groups and market research to understand how consumers perceive our products in the context of the whole market.

We closely monitor consumer liaison via our Consumer Care Department, and during 2007 we have introduced an on-pack careline number to make it even easier for consumers to contact us directly.

Customers

Customer liaison is routinely carried out at Sales and Logistics levels, with Director level meetings with our major customers occurring on a regular basis to ensure that customer feedback is built into the company action plans going forward.

Customer service is also a key measure of our company performance.
