Abe Kah - Team leader, Beckton Factory
Name: Abe Kah
Role: Team Leader, Beckton
Joined Britvic: 1996
What he says: "Since I started here I have moved quite quickly through a number of different roles and have always been given plenty of opportunities for development."
Abe Kah’s career has progressed steadily since he first started working at Beckton, packing bottles on one of the factory’s four production lines.
The site produces millions of bottles a year in a range of pack sizes, including 500ml, 1 litre, 2 litre and a number of different multi-packs.
After 18 months he became a team co-ordinator, a role which he performed for a few years before becoming team leader on the green shift.
Now, he is responsible for a team of 36, covering all four production lines during their shift. The challenge is to meet the ever tougher targets for reliability and line efficiency, while responding to fluctuations in consumer demand for different brands. "It’s great to be busy; it means the site is doing well, the company is doing well – and ultimately that’s good news for my job security," says Abe."I am delighted with how my career has gone," he adds. "Since I started here I have moved quite quickly through a number of different roles and have always been given plenty of opportunities for development.
"As well as attending a number of on-site programmes run by Britvic, including machine training and engineering courses, Abe is committed to learning in his own time."I spend a lot of time doing online courses via the internet and reading books. I have enjoyed all my roles at Britvic and would love to progress to do more in the future."
